Corona Up and Down

Wir waren schon wieder fast bei Business-as-usual angelangt, mit den jetzt wöchentlichen Open Embassy Abenden am Mittwoch, Pasta Potlucks, Crafternoon und KO-Markt-Präsenz mit dem Filmcafé. Aber nun schwappt die Corona-Welle wieder höher, physische Distanzierung ist wieder angesagt, und drinnen in der Embassy begann auch schon vorher der innere Wettstreit zwischen Heizen, Lüften, Masken und genug Abstand halten. Als offizieller Kunst-Ort mit Veranstaltungen gelten leider nicht die privaten Regeln, sondern eher die einer Schule oder Gaststätte (mit entsprechenden Bußgeldern). Deshalb wandern die offiziellen Veranstaltungen erst mal wieder ins Virtuelle, an unser Video-Lagerfeuer (https://campfire.burnerembassy.berlin/Fireplace, App oder Chrome bevorzugt).

Nichtsdestotrotz wird die Embassy durchaus weiter genutzt, z.B. von Pioniernachbar*innen für interne Arbeitstreffen. Auch unserem Build-Team fällt schon wieder die Decke auf den Kopf, und sie werfen sich auf all die Dinge, die in der Sommerhitze liegengeblieben sind: Terrasse ausbauen und verschönern, Leiter zur Hochetage im kleinen Raum befestigen,

Kartoffeln aus dem Vorgarten ernten, Decke abdichten gegen Regen UND — die Tür verstärken. Ja, wir hatten jetzt unseren fünften Einbruch, aber glücklicherweise kein Geld mehr vor Ort, das dabei verloren gehen könnte (ein anderes Projekt hat leider 400€ eingebüßt).
Es gibt auch durchaus noch den Wunsch bzw. die Planung, die Heiz- und Lüftungssituation zu verbessern. Das hängt von den verfügbaren (Spenden-) Geldern ab, und somit auch davon, wie unsere Jahresspender*innen trotz dieser Krise noch dabeibleiben können.
Wir hoffen aber auf das Beste!

Wir sind außerdem auch aktiv im HdS-Rat, der Keimzelle für die kommenden Jahre der Quartiersmitbestimmung am Haus der Statistik. Auch beteiligen wir uns an anderen Beteiligungsformaten, um unsere Zukunft vor Ort im Blick zu behalten und möglicherweise sogar zu sichern. Es wird sich schon im nächsten Jahr einiges verändern. Danach aber gibt es eine Chance auf weitere 5 Jahre gemeinsam mit den anderen Pionieren. Und später auch eine Option auf dauerhafte Präsenz, wenn wir das wollen.

Für Ende November/Anfang Dezember zur 1-Jahres-Feier der Embassy-Eröffnung gibt es u.a. die Idee, ein deutsches Community-Projekt von Burning Man 2016 wieder aufleben zu lassen, die G.E.R.M.A.N. Gilde (das Regel-Macher-Projekt), weil wir ja alle noch nicht genug Regeln im Leben befolgen müssen. Mit Abstand und Zeitslots und allem, was Corona derzeit so erfordert. Nur wenn die Auflagen noch viel schwieriger werden, müssten wir alles wahrscheinlich verschieben.

Ihr seht, die Embassy ist da, sie wartet auf Euch, wann immer es möglich ist, und freut sich weiterhin darauf, einen Platz in euren Herzen zu haben. Und dass wir uns, so bald es geht, alle dort wiedersehen.

We were almost back to business-as-usual, with the now weekly Open Embassy evenings on Wednesday, Pasta Potlucks, Crafternoon and KO-Market presence with the film café. But now the corona wave is surging higher again, physical distancing is the order of the day again, and inside the Embassy the inner competition between heating, ventilation, masks and keeping enough distance began even before that. Unfortunately, as an official art place with events, the private rules do not apply, but rather those of a school or restaurant (with corresponding fines). Therefore, the official events first of all move into the virtual realm, to our video campfire (https://campfire.burnerembassy.berlin/Fireplace, App or Chrome preferred).

Nevertheless, the Embassy is still used, e.g. by pioneer neighbors for internal work meetings. Also our build team is already falling on the ceiling again, and they are throwing themselves on all the things that were left behind in the summer heat: extending and beautifying the terrace, fixing a ladder to the upper floor in a small room, Harvesting potatoes from the front garden, sealing the ceiling against rain AND – reinforcing the door. Yes, we now had our fifth break-in, but fortunately no more money on site that could be lost (one project unfortunately lost 400€).
There is also still the desire and plan to improve the heating and ventilation situation. This depends on the available (donation) funds and therefore also on how our annual donors* can still stay involved despite this crisis.
But we hope for the best!

We are also active in the HdS Council, the nucleus for the coming years of neighborhood self-organization at the House of Statistics. We also joined other participation formats in order to keep an eye on our future on site and possibly even to secure it. There will already be some changes next year. After that, however, there will be a chance for another 5 years together with the other pioneers. And later there will also be an option for a permanent presence, if we so wish.

For the end of November/beginning of December for the 1-year celebration of the Embassy opening there is, among other things, the idea to revive a German community project of Burning Man 2016, the G.E.R.M.A.N. Guild (the rule maker project), because we all don’t have to follow enough rules in life yet. With distance and time slots and everything that Corona currently requires. Only if the rules become much more difficult, we would probably have to postpone everything.

You see, the Embassy is still there, waiting for you whenever possible and looking forward to have a place in your hearts. And that we will all meet again there as soon as possible.
